SERVICING, REPAIRS & AFTERCARE

Keeping your stairlift safe and reliable

A stairlift is a piece of moving equipment carrying someone you care about - so it's worth keeping it in good order. We look after the stairlifts we supply and fit across Merseyside, with servicing, repairs and friendly aftercare from the same local team who installed it.

Being clear up front

What we cover

We're a small, independent team, and we look after the stairlifts we've supplied and installed ourselves. That way we know the equipment, we hold its history, and we can give you the best possible aftercare - the people who fitted your stairlift are the same people who service it.

Did we supply your stairlift?

Our servicing and repairs are for stairlifts we fitted. If your stairlift was installed by another company, we may not be able to work on it - but do call us and we'll be honest about whether we can help, or point you toward someone who can. We'd rather tell you straight than take on something we can't do properly.

For our own customers, aftercare is part of the deal: every stairlift we install comes with a warranty, and we're on hand afterwards for servicing, adjustments and any repairs your stairlift needs over its life.

Prevention beats breakdown

Annual servicing

Like a car or a boiler, a stairlift benefits from a regular service. Modern stairlifts are reliable, but they carry someone up and down every day, and a yearly check keeps them running smoothly and safely - and catches small issues before they become a breakdown at the worst moment.

A routine service typically includes:

  • Checking the safety sensors and cut-outs that stop the lift if there's an obstruction
  • Testing the seat belt, swivel and folding mechanisms
  • Inspecting the battery and charging so it keeps working in a power cut
  • Cleaning and lubricating the rail and checking for wear
  • A full running test up and down, with any adjustments needed

A note on VAT

If your stairlift was originally supplied VAT-free because you're chronically sick or disabled, that relief also applies to servicing and repairs - so there's no VAT on the aftercare either. See our grants & funding page for how VAT relief works.

When something's not right

Repairs & breakdowns

If your stairlift stops working or isn't behaving as it should, give us a call. Because we're local to Merseyside, we can usually get to our customers quickly - and many faults turn out to be something straightforward, like a battery or a sensor, that we can put right on the spot.

We'll always explain what's wrong and what it'll cost before doing any work, so there are no surprises. If a part needs ordering, we'll tell you honestly how long it's likely to take.

If your stairlift has stopped

Before you call, it's worth a quick check: is it switched on at the socket, is the seat fully in the parked position, and is anything blocking the rail? Many stairlifts won't move unless the seat and footrest are set correctly and the path is clear. If it still won't go, call us and we'll talk it through.

Catch it early

Signs your stairlift needs attention

A stairlift usually gives you warning before it fails. Contact us if you notice any of these:

  • Unusual noises - grinding, clicking or grating as it moves
  • Jerky or slower movement, or stopping partway
  • Warning lights or beeps you don't recognise
  • The battery not holding charge, or the lift feeling weaker
  • The seat, belt or swivel not locking as it should

If in doubt, it's always better to call and check. We'd far rather hear from you early than have a stairlift let you down when you need it.

Common questions

Servicing & repairs - FAQs

Do you repair stairlifts you didn't install?
Our servicing and repairs are mainly for stairlifts we supplied and fitted, because we know the equipment and hold its history. If yours was installed elsewhere, please still call - we'll be honest about whether we can help or point you in the right direction.
How often should a stairlift be serviced?
Once a year is the usual recommendation for a stairlift in regular use. An annual service keeps it running smoothly, keeps the safety features working, and catches small problems before they lead to a breakdown.
My stairlift has stopped - what should I check first?
Check it's switched on at the socket, the seat and footrest are fully in position, and nothing is blocking the rail - most stairlifts won't move otherwise. If it still won't go, give us a call and we'll talk it through or arrange a visit.
Is there VAT on servicing and repairs?
If your stairlift was originally supplied VAT-free because you're chronically sick or disabled, that relief also covers servicing and repairs, so there's no VAT on them. For the over-60s reduced rate, VAT relief applies only to the original supply and installation, not later work.
